Three weeks out from the release of their new album, Foo Fighters have unveiled the record's third single, "Waiting on a War."

The mostly-acoustic new track builds into a more Foo Fighters-y rocker over the course of 4 minutes. Frontman Dave Grohl says the song's lyrics draw heavily from his Gen. X childhood, growing up in the dark shadow of the Cold War.

"As a child growing up in the suburbs of Washington D.C., I was always afraid of war," Grohl writes in a statement released in conjunction with the single. "I had nightmares of missiles in the sky and soldiers in my backyard..."

But "Waiting on a War" was actually inspired by a conversation he had last year with his daughter, Harper Willow.

"Last fall, as I was driving my 11-year-old daughter to school, she turned to me and asked, 'Daddy, is there going to be a war?'" Grohl recalled. "My heart sank in my chest as I looked into her innocent eyes, because I realized that she was now living under that same dark cloud of a hopeless future that I had felt 40 years ago."

Grohl wrote "Waiting on a War" that day.

Much like the Foo Fighters celebrated the first single from Medicine At Midnight with a performance on Saturday Night Live, the band will perform "Waiting on a War" tonight on Jimmy Kimmel Live!

Medicine At Midnight is due out everywhere February 5.
