Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker's blink-182 side project Box Car Racer may have only released one album during its short tenure, but that one album was a great one. And it came out nearly two decades ago. On Monday night (December 28), Travis threw fans into a tizzy when — out of nowhere — he mentioned the upcoming milestone.
"Next year is the 20th anniversary of the Box Car Racer album," the drummer tweeted.
Then Tom responded in the most Tom way ever. "Yes, @travisbarker just rolled over and woke me up to tell me, too," he wrote.
Of course, this convinced fans that some sort of celebration was happening. A reunion? A reissue? New music? Who knows, but diehard BCR fans will take whatever they can get! See Tom and Travis' exchange below.
This isn't the first time Tom and Travis have coyly mentioned BCR this year. Back in April, Tom got fans begging for a reunion when he shared handwritten lyrics to "Feel So" on social media. Travis also mentioned an unreleased song during an interview over the summer, though he warned "probably no one will ever hear it.”
"I talk to Tom all the time," Travis said at the time. "There’s actually an unreleased Box Car [Racer] song that we were almost going to release, but it would just be wrong to troll people and put that out in the world. But, it’s incredible and probably no one will ever hear it.”
Could that be the surprise they have up their sleeves? Only time will tell.
